Kaylee, waist detail

Made for a gift, 2010, this doll is dressed as Kaylee Frye, the gifted ship's mechanic and girly-girl from Firefly.

Doll is made from my original pattern and has a partial armature (spine, with hip and shoulder supports). Body is cotton muslin, stuffed with polyfil. Face is hand painted. Wig is made of wool yarn and is attached so it is styleable in any of the several ways the character wore her hair.

All clothing is handsewn, and removable, except the necklace. Patches and appliques are handpainted on the coveralls, and the chinese characters have also been added with a marker. Coveralls are distressed with tea, then again with sprayed on and directly brushed on paints and dyes.

She is barefoot because Kaylee likes to be barefoot.
